Extremely rare Genuine BMW New Old Stock lower exterior rear-window moulding for BMW E12 and E28 5 Series saloon models with bright window trim.
This long curved trim is installed along the lower edge of the rear windscreen. It finishes the exterior rear-window surround and connects to the separate corner mouldings on both sides.
BMW part number 51311817452 has been discontinued and is no longer available new from BMW. Finding an original unused example has therefore become increasingly difficult.

BMW part number 51311817452 is discontinued and no longer available new through the regular BMW parts programme.
Condition
Genuine BMW New Old Stock component that has never been fitted to a vehicle.
The moulding is generally in very attractive condition considering its age and rarity. However, it has been moved between storage locations several times over the years and consequently has a number of small pits, spots and storage marks in the bright surface.
Visible condition includes:
- Several small pits and spot marks
- Light surface oxidation or discolouration
- Minor scratches and storage marks
- Marks caused by handling and long-term storage
- Possible minor imperfections along the edges
These imperfections are mainly cosmetic, but the moulding should not be considered concours-perfect. Please inspect the detailed photographs carefully to assess the exact condition.
Despite the storage marks, this remains an exceptionally rare and attractive original unused BMW moulding. Finding a genuine NOS example is considerably more difficult than finding a used trim removed from a vehicle.

Important condition information
This is a genuine unused New Old Stock part, but it is not visually flawless.
The small pits and storage marks are clearly visible in the photographs and form part of the item’s current condition. They were caused by age, handling and changes between storage locations rather than vehicle use.
For a restored vehicle, the moulding may be installed as supplied or professionally cleaned and refinished, depending on the desired finish.
Installation recommendation
Before installation:
- Confirm that the vehicle uses bright exterior window trim
- Verify BMW part number 51311817452
- Compare the profile and curvature with the original moulding
- Inspect the complete trim for storage damage
- Check that the rear-window rubber is suitable for reuse
- Inspect the corresponding upper and corner mouldings
- Clean the rear-window seal and mounting channel
- Do not bend, twist or flatten the moulding
- Use plastic trim tools to avoid damaging the surface
- Test-fit the moulding before applying pressure
- Avoid using abrasive metal polish without first testing a concealed area
These long mouldings are delicate and can be permanently damaged by incorrect handling. Professional installation by someone experienced with classic BMW window trim is strongly recommended.
