Genuine BMW New Old Stock oil seal for the selector shaft of selected BMW manual gearboxes.

This small radial shaft seal is fitted at the rear of the gearbox, around the selector shaft where it enters the transmission housing. It is positioned above the gearbox output shaft and prevents transmission oil from leaking along the selector shaft.

The seal is an original unused BMW part from older dealer stock.

Function

The selector shaft transfers movement from the gear linkage into the manual transmission. This seal closes the opening around the shaft and helps prevent gearbox oil from escaping from the rear transmission housing.

A worn, hardened or damaged selector shaft seal can cause oil residue around the gear linkage, selector shaft and rear of the gearbox.

This is not the larger gearbox output-shaft seal.

This is a genuine unused BMW New Old Stock component.

Due to its age and long-term storage, it may show:

Although unused, this is an older rubber sealing component. Inspect the sealing lip, outer surface and internal tension spring for hardening, cracks, deformation or other deterioration before installation.

Installation recommendation

Before installation:

• Confirm the BMW part number and gearbox application
• Compare the new seal with the removed seal
• Check the selector shaft for corrosion, wear or grooves
• Carefully remove the old seal without damaging the shaft or housing
• Clean the seal bore and surrounding transmission housing
• Lightly lubricate the sealing lip with the correct gearbox oil
• Protect the sealing lip from sharp shaft edges during installation
• Press the seal squarely and evenly into the correct position
• Refit the selector linkage correctly
• Check the gearbox oil level
• Inspect the area for leakage after installation
