Genuine BMW Manual Transmission Input Shaft Seal – NOS – 23111228314

Genuine BMW New Old Stock radial shaft seal for the input shaft of selected classic BMW manual transmissions.

This seal is installed at the front of the gearbox and prevents transmission oil from leaking around the input shaft. It is a spring-loaded radial oil seal measuring 30 × 42 × 7 mm.

BMW used this seal in various Getrag manual transmissions, including selected Getrag 240 and Getrag 245 applications. One seal is normally required per gearbox.

Condition

This is a genuine BMW New Old Stock component that has never been installed.

Due to long-term storage, please note:

• The original BMW paper packaging is heavily worn and torn
• The seal has light storage marks and surface discolouration
• The rubber is several decades old
• The sealing lip and external surface should be checked for hardening, cracking or deformation
• The internal garter spring appears present but should be inspected before installation

Because this is an age-sensitive rubber component, its flexibility and overall condition must be carefully checked before use. Installation is not recommended if the material has become hard, brittle or damaged.

Installation recommendation

Before installation:

• Confirm the BMW part number and 30 × 42 × 7 mm dimensions
• Check the seal for cracks, hardening and deformation
• Inspect the garter spring
• Check the input shaft for scoring or corrosion
• Inspect the guide tube or bearing cover
• Lightly lubricate the sealing lip with suitable transmission oil
• Install the seal squarely using an appropriate seal driver
• Observe the correct sealing-lip direction and installation depth
• Refill the gearbox with the specified transmission oil
• Check carefully for leaks after installation

Professional installation is recommended, as access generally requires removal or separation of the manual transmission.
