Original Goetze New Old Stock valve stem seal set for selected classic BMW models equipped with a 12-valve M30 six-cylinder engine.

These seals prevent engine oil from passing between the valve stems and valve guides into the combustion chambers. Worn valve stem seals can cause increased oil consumption, blue exhaust smoke and carbon deposits inside the engine.

The set contains 12 valve stem seals, providing one seal for each valve of a complete BMW M30 six-cylinder engine.

Manufactured by Goetze AG in West Germany in 1984. Goetze was a recognised German manufacturer of engine components and sealing products.

The seals have been stored for an extended period. Visible storage characteristics include:

• Ageing, creasing and small marks on the original paper label
• Storage dust and residue
• Light cosmetic discolouration
• Minor marks on the metal sections
• Age-related surface changes to the sealing material

Because these are more than 40-year-old elastomer components, every seal must be carefully checked for flexibility, cracking, deformation and hardening before installation.

The seals have not been function-tested. Supplied exactly as shown in the photographs.

Installation recommendation

Before installation:

• Confirm that the engine is a compatible BMW M30 version
• Verify the valve-stem and seal dimensions
• Check every NOS seal for flexibility, cracks and hardening
• Inspect the valve stems and valve guides for wear
• Measure valve-guide clearance where necessary
• Protect the sealing lips from valve-stem grooves during installation
• Use appropriate installation sleeves and specialist tools
• Lubricate the sealing lips with suitable clean engine oil or assembly lubricant
• Install every seal squarely and to the correct depth
• Replace the valve-cover gasket and other disturbed seals where necessary

Valve stem seal replacement requires specialist engine knowledge. Incorrect installation can damage the sealing lips or cause excessive engine-oil consumption.

Installation should be performed by a qualified engine specialist.
