Original Bosch BMW E23 / E24 Auxiliary Air Slide Valve – 0280140152 / 13631284414

Original used Bosch auxiliary air slide valve for selected BMW E23 7 Series and E24 6 Series models equipped with an M30 petrol engine.

The auxiliary air slide valve supplies additional air to the engine while it is cold, increasing the cold-start idle speed. As the valve warms up, its internal shutter gradually closes and reduces the additional airflow.

This is an original Bosch component carrying reference number 0 280 140 152. The corresponding BMW catalogue number is 13631284414.

Several visually similar Bosch auxiliary air valves were installed during this period. Compatibility must therefore be checked using both the Bosch and BMW part numbers rather than appearance alone.

Do not confuse this valve with Bosch versions such as 0 280 140 040, 0 280 140 124, 0 280 140 133 or other visually similar auxiliary air slide valves.

Function

When the engine is cold, the valve allows additional air to bypass the closed throttle valve. This increases the cold idle speed and helps the engine run smoothly during warm-up.

The electrical heating element and rising engine temperature gradually close the internal air shutter. Once the engine has warmed up, the additional airflow should be substantially reduced.

A defective or sticking auxiliary air valve may cause symptoms such as:

• Incorrect cold idle speed
• Engine stalling shortly after a cold start
• Excessively high warm idle
• Fluctuating or unstable idle speed
• Additional unmetered-air or vacuum-leak symptoms

Testing recommendation

Before installation:

• Inspect both hose connections for cracks or deformation
• Check the electrical connector and terminals
• Inspect the mounting bracket
• Look through the air passage while the valve is cold
• Confirm that the internal shutter is at least partially open when cold
• Apply the correct electrical supply and verify that the passage gradually closes
• Check the electrical heating element for continuity
• Clean the internal air passage using a suitable non-aggressive cleaner
• Allow the valve to dry completely before installation

Do not force the internal shutter with a screwdriver or other hard object, as this may damage the mechanism or calibration.

Because the valve is supplied untested, professional inspection is recommended before use.
