Genuine BMW New Old Stock shaft seal for selected ZF automatic transmissions fitted to classic BMW models.

This seal is installed at the front of the automatic transmission around the torque-converter and oil-pump input area. It prevents automatic-transmission fluid from escaping between the torque converter and transmission housing.

This product is sold individually. Although two seals are shown in the photographs, the stated price is for one seal only. One seal is required per compatible automatic transmission.

Genuine BMW New Old Stock seal that has never been installed.

The original BMW order label is dated 12 December 1995. Due to its age and long-term storage, the following may be present:

• Ageing and deterioration of the original packaging
• Opened, torn or damaged packaging
• Storage dust and cosmetic marks
• Light surface discolouration
• Age-related changes to the sealing material
• Minor discolouration on the internal metal reinforcement

The sealing lip must be checked for flexibility, cracks, deformation and hardening before installation.

Installation recommendation

Before installation:

• Verify the exact ZF transmission type
• Compare the old seal dimensions and BMW number
• Inspect the NOS seal for hardening, cracks or deformation
• Check the torque-converter sealing surface for wear or scoring
• Inspect the oil-pump bushing and surrounding transmission components
• Clean the seal bore without damaging the aluminium housing
• Lubricate the sealing lip with suitable automatic-transmission fluid
• Install the seal straight and at the correct depth
• Do not strike the seal directly with a metal tool
• Refill the transmission with the correct approved fluid
• Check carefully for leaks after installation

Because replacement requires removal of the automatic transmission and torque converter, professional installation by an automatic-transmission specialist is recommended.
